Welcome to your classroom! The Classroom is the location of all of the lesson content, associated learning resources, and a brief quick quiz or learning activity that goes along with each topic.
Once you're done with each lesson, you'll hop over to The Workbench to do your Explorations in Science (at-home, or occasionally online, activities), Unit Tests, and Unit Projects.
Currently, all assignments are submitted through Google Forms, with the answers provided back to you. We do not currently summarize your grades, send out report cards, or provide individualized feedback, so it’s on you and your family or support system to track your own progress. We are designed as a homeschool tool.
Sublessons, Quick Quizzes, and Learning Activities
The classroom is broken down into units, lessons, and sublessons. The learning content is all found in the sublessons. Each sublesson comes with its own quick quiz or learning activity, which is designed to help you solidify what you've already learned. Each sublesson and it's associated quick quiz or learning activity is designed to be completed in 1 day. The exact length of time that you will spend on any given sublesson will vary, but we anticipate that you will average about an hour a day.
Each sublesson has a short summary at the end that lists the most important ideas that you should have gotten from that lesson. You may notice that we often provide details in the sublessons that we don't necessarily expect you to remember every aspect of. We usually tell you what things you'll need to remember, and we'll tell you if something we teach is more for your own curiosity. As long as you're trying your best to make sure you have a good grasp on the main points listed in the summary, you will succeed in this course.
If you complete 1 sublesson a day, plus another day for each EIS, plus 1 day to plan your project, plus 1 day to take your exam, that leaves you with about 4-5 days to study for your exam while completing the experiments for your project, to still be able to finish this class in 5 days a week over a standard school year. We encourage you to develop your time management skills by developing and sticking to your own schedule, making adjustments as needed as you go through the course.
